The Alienware Horizon Slim Backpack stands out as a very well-rounded everyday bag, combining a minimalist design with a focus on comfort and build quality for a reasonable cost. For $35, it offers impressive value, holding up to a 17-inch laptop with gaming accessories such as headphones, a tablet, and smaller personal items. But there’s plenty more than meets the eye.
Other features like impact protection help to add peace of mind from damaging expensive devices. Having weather-resistant materials enables a more durable build quality while also using functional and comfortable materials, allowing for ease of use in an all-day carry. For a soft shell backpack, it hits all the checkpoints that I need on a daily basis. My only complaint? It’s a little too sleek based on the shape and width of its slim build design. Let’s dive in.

The Horizon Slim backpack easily carried my 17-inch MacBook with enough room for my gaming peripherals, such as a mouse and mousepad, for on-the-go gaming. However, having only two internal sleeves limited me for additional larger items I wanted bring when trying to do some work at a local card shop. Nevertheless, I was able to add my deck box, hoodie, and some over-the-ear headphones. As mentioned earlier, the slim profile of the backpack does impose constraints on bigger items, which is probably one of the only downsides of this bag. For example, fitting a change of clothes only worked if I did not bring my tablet. If you’re not someone who needs to carry a lot or usually travel light, The Horizon Slim would do the job with minimal flaws.
Plush Padding for All-Day Comfort
The Horizon Slim Backpack’s back padding and shoulder straps are made from a soft, foam fabric made for sustained comfort throughout the day. The padding is notably thick and feels almost cooling due to its breathability, which makes it its strongest feature. Even when the bag was loaded with plenty of weight, the cushioning remained supportive and effective in its comfort. Alienware really focused on what material to use for the padding, and it shows. The Horizon Slim was comfortable to wear all day and regardless of how much was inside the bag, kept weight distribution even.
Fabric Choices for Both Style and Functionality
This backpack keeps your devices secure and protected using Alienware’s lightweight 360 EVA foam cushioning, which helps absorb daily impact when moving around. Having a lining for each sleeve inside the backpack also helps to keep devices clean, as well as offering a snug fit, ensuring they won't move when zipped up. On top of that, Alienware’s choice of exterior fabrics is very pleasing to the touch. I’m a fan of this Ecoloop fabric they’ve created and both interior and exterior materials feel durable and high quality.
Needs More Sleeves and Pockets
The Horizon Slim backpack has two primary compartments: the main section that contains the bulk of your belongings, and then a smaller pocket for essentials like keys and a wallet. While the backpack is very functional, the design could be better with an additional zippered compartment to add better separation between items. Notably, there is no side pocket for a water bottle, which is commonly found on most everyday backpacks. The word slim was taken very literally with this backpack design so keep in mind the lack of compartments if you’re considering this bag.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the Horizon Slim Backpack is an excellent option to use as an everyday bag, specifically for those who carry a lesser to moderate amount of items, prioritize comfort, and support. Its sleek design and high-quality materials that Alienware used show their focus on the essentials: durable fabrics, functionality, and all-day use. While I wish there were more compartments, like a water bottle sleeve, or an extra compartment to add separation, it does a great job of holding all the essentials with ease. Considering its price, size, and usability, the Horizon Slim backpack proves itself as a strong contender for an everyday backpack.
