The world has waited a long time for an official Google smartwatch. After snatching up Fitbit and by extension the Pebble IP, Google has had plenty of opportune time to refine a well developed hardware for WearOS. The time has finally arrived and the Pixel Watch has been unleashed into the market. I received my watch from Google a couple days before I went on a week long trip to Canada. It was great to spend some time traveling with this watch to learn all about how it functions in everyday scenarios. Earlier this year, I wrote an article discussing why I thought Apple won the smartwatch war with their Apple Watch products. Everything I talked about there has now been fulfilled by the Pixel Watch.
There’s so much about the form, the design, and the functionality of how the Pixel Watch flows that reminds me of the Apple Watch. This is definitely not a bad thing. I’ve wanted an Apple Watch for Android since 2017! From the crown dial to the way the text displays on the watch, Google has found a recipe that surprisingly hasn’t been harnessed for Android phones.
