Rivian surprises with R3 and R3X alongside debut of R2

EV maker Rivian just unveiled the next phase of the brand’s portfolio expansion. The long anticipated “cheaper” Rivian, the R2, debuted today, and as expected, it resembles a smaller R1S. It will have an estimated range of 330 miles, and reach 0-60 mph in around 3 seconds. The SUV will come with an anticipated starting price of $45,000 when it starts production in 2026.

In an Apple-esque presentation tactic, CEO RJ Scaringe brought out two additional brand new models to the stage that will also fall within the company's goal of being more affordable. The R3 and its performance version, the R3X, are throwback-looking crossover SUVs that will be the smallest models from the carmaker. rivian didn't disclose pricing or delivery time frames, but they are expected to be released after the R2 hits the market in 2026.
