CES 2024: Samsung Wants AI For ALL

Samsung’s ‘AI for All’ theme was shared at today’s Media Day in Las Vegas for CES 2024. While the highlight was, of course like everything else here this year, about Artificial Intelligence, Samsung also unveiled a few new items in their lineup. Here’s what was covered today.

More Security

Samsung Knox Matrix, which has been around for 10 years, is now included on most Galaxy smartphones and even smart TVs. Samsung singled out the A-line to highlight the inclusion on their budget device. The security enhancement has also been extended on Knox Vault, which protects customer data on other IOT connected Samsung products.

Tesla x SmartThings Energy

Samsung also announced a partnership with Tesla featuring an integration with Samsung’s SmartThings Energy. SmartThings Energy customers can use Tesla’s “Storm Watch” feature on the Tesla Powerwall app to prepare for power outages. By doing so, customers can take advantage of functions like AI Energy Mode in order to conserve energy in their home during critical moments.

Integrated Home-to-Car Features

Through a partnership with Hyundai, Samsung has also added additional SmartThings connectivity features for mobility. SmartThings users can use the app and use voice commands to control features on their Hyundai, Kia or Genesis vehicles. Features include temperature control, garage door control and heating mode controls.

New Television Lineup

Samsung also announced new televisions featuring QLED, Micro LED, and OLED technology today. The Neo QLED 8K and 4K televisions are new to the lineup and feature Samsung’s newest processor: the NQ8 AI Gen 3. With more processing power, Samsung advertises clearer and more accurate images. With the Neo QLED 8K also comes updated audio quality. This features the Q-Symphony so that customers can use multiple wireless speakers with a soundbar connected to a TV or projector for unified audio. There’s also Active Voice Amplifier Prio, which uses Samsung’s AI to listen to background noise and adjusts your sound accordingly.

The brand also shared The Premiere 8K, the world’s first 8K 150-inch transmission projector.

New Odyssey Monitors

There’s also new Odyssey gaming monitors coming to the Samsung family as well. New additions are the Odyssey OLED G6 (27” QHD monitor with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 360 Hz refresh rate), the Odyssey OLED G8 (32” flat OLED monitor with 4K UHD with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 240 Hz refresh rate), and the Odyssey OLED G9 (49” curved DQHD ultra-wide display in a 32:9 aspect ratio and a 240Hz refresh rate).

A New Galaxy Book

The latest Galaxy Book laptop

In collaboration with Microsoft, Samsung also unveiled its new Galaxy Book 4. Powered by AI and Microsoft Copilot, it’s now easier to integrate a customer’s smartphone with their Galaxy Book. The Galaxy Book4 can sift through and access smartphone features and even read or describe text messages from a customer’s Galaxy phone without having to open it.

Home Appliances and Other Home Tech

Samsung also introduced the Music Frame. As a new audio accessory to its home lineup, the wireless speaker can function as a decor piece and speaker, just like its Frame TV counterpart. There’s two built-in woofers for customers to connect to.

In other home tech, Samsung also unveiled its Bespoke 4-Door Flex™ Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™+. The internal camera can look at how many items are inside the refrigerator at a given time, determine shelf life and expiration and count quantity.

The Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™ is Samsung’s new all-in-one washer and dryer. Over time, the appliance can recognize patterns in washing and drying and memorize habits and offer suggestions.

Finally, Samsung also shared more about the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™. The robot cleaner is able to detect objects and determine floor type more accurately than its predecessor robot vacuum. It’s also able to both mop and vacuum on different settings.

Ballie

While the original Ballie was first shared at CES in 2020, Samsung announced changes to the robot companion powered by AI in its new iteration. It can project images and videos and help answer basic customer questions when it’s connected to other Samsung home appliances and devices. It’s also able to share videos of pets at home while users are away.

Accessibility

Finally, Samsung has shared some accessibility updates to enable all types of customers to better use their products. This includes improvements in audio subtitles using AI-enabled text-to-speech and Relumino mode to support customers with vision impairments.
