Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Cases

Cases for that Passport-looking phone

As someone prone to dropping their phone due to clumsiness, I was worried about how I would protect my Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8. Here are some wireless magnetic-charging compatible cases I tried out and experienced on my phone. With different textures and materials, here’s the breakdown of my experience with them.

Benks Grand Combo Crystal Case - $54.99

For a transparent shell, the Grand Combo Crystal Case shines in protection and simplicity. It features a central hinge axis for protection that reinforces the hinge. I dropped my Z Fold8 probably the most with this case on and it didn’t reflect any dents or damages. The hinge  is also the only place that the Benks label is placed, making the design equally subtle. Also included is a screen protector that looks and feels invisible. The front frame is thin and easy to put on and features an anti yellowing treatment so even as you use the case, it shouldn’t get discolored. Do note though that due to its transparent build, it does pick up fingerprints very easily. While I really enjoyed this case, those who prefer a little more texture may not benefit as much from this sleeker glossier case.

Benks Grand Combo ArmorGrid Beyond Blue - $119.99

By far, this was my favorite case to review and probably with good reason. While priced higher, this is a three piece set that includes a Kevlar hinge-covering case, Kevlar front frame and HD cover screen protector. The Kevlar feels excellent to touch and features a smooth yet noticeable texture that makes it easier for gripping. The magnetic hinge feels high quality and has a PU leather exterior for added design. The front case is slightly raised and has an aluminum lens Kevlar front frame, enforcing it for extra protection from drops. Benks touts a 12 foot drop protection on this phone and while I haven’t tested that out quite yet, I do appreciate how high quality this case looks and feels. On top of that, it’s got the slimmest design out of all the cases I checked out.

dbrand Grip Case - $54.90

While this was the first case I tested out on my Fold8, it was my least favorite case to review. The design is simple and features a matte black and slim 2 mm profile build, but hinge coverage was not as strong, in my opinion, as the other cases here. It simply came off way too often for my liking from even gentle touches. Advertised as the world’s grippiest phone case, there is a nice texture on the back and hinge but by no means would I call it the grippiest. While I appreciate the chamfered lip on the front for added front protection, I’m just not sure if this was the right fit for me. I also dropped it while at a concert and it noticeably left a scratch on the case despite doing its job to protect my device.

VRS DESIGN Terra Guard Modern - $44.99

The VRS Design felt the bulkiest out of all the cases I checked out, but it did the best at protecting areas like the device’s charging port, power button and volume rocker. It noticeably felt durable and simple in design. There is some texture in the mag charge ring on the back and hinge, but it’s otherwise totally smooth feeling which may or may not be what you are looking for. It does feel more prone to slipping in and out of the hands. Similar to the dbrand and Benks cases, the branding is very subtle, only listed at the hinge. If you’re ok with a slightly larger build, this is a great value for the price since it also comes with a tempered glass screen protector.
