It’s no joke that we’ve seen our fair share of both practical and aesthetically pleasing mechanical keyboards here at The Sypnotix. And while it really comes down to personal preference and how they’re being used, some keyboards just really stand out amongst the crowd. I’ve been using the Logitech G PRO League of Legends edition mechanical keyboard for over a month now and it ticked off virtually all the boxes in my book as an everyday user. Let’s take a closer look.

Unique looking and well made

Without doubt, the Logitech G PRO looks fantastic. It has the build quality you’d expect from a higher end Logitech accessory with the finishing touches that befits a special edition tag. This League of Legend edition gives it a unique identity that immediately stands out. I’ll be upfront in my review and mention that I did not play games with this keyboard nor am I a huge League of Legends fan, but I am reviewing this as someone who used this mechanical keyboard everyday for work and various computer functions. I love the blue shade of this keyboard with the intricate gold design that wraps around the entire keyboard. It adds the right pop of color to any desk aesthetic and is unique yet minimalistic. Logitech’s grand G logo glows in blue on the top left and ties in well with the League of Legends logo that sits in the middle of the keyboard. As a wired mechanical keyboard, it comes with a 5.9 ft detachable cable that connects via micro USB.

This tenkeyless wired mechanical keyboard features rubber footing on the bottom with adjustable feet to slope the angle if you so choose. Because this keyboard is not the slimmest by design, I prefer to use it with a wrist rest to help alleviate fatigue in my wrists during long-term computing. With GX Brown Tactile switches, the keystrokes are definitely noticeable and you can feel the spring of each input upon your fingertips. It’s a satisfying click that recoils significantly from the pressure needed to press the keys. It’s more of a tact sound than a tick sound.

The RGB lighting on the G Pro functions as you’d imagine from a Logitech device. The colors have a nice varying contrast against the deep hue from the black keycaps. This being a Logitech gaming accessory, you can customize colors of the board using the Logitech G HUB Gaming Software. While I didn’t have any issue using the keyboard itself, I did have issues connecting my keyboard to the G HUB software. It may have been because my MacBook Air is connected to the keyboard via a USB Hub, but the software had trouble recognizing my device despite being able to type and use the keyboard like normal. G Hub isn’t the worst gaming keyboard software out there, but it isn’t without its annoyances here and there. There’s a convenient button directly on the keyboard that allows you to turn the RGB lights on or off through a single touch. As for the brightness levels, I noticed the color doesn’t get as bright as some other keyboards in this price range, but they’re still noticeable and immerse well with the overall look of the keyboard.

Programmable and multifunctional

For those looking to use the keyboard for gaming, the G PRO features 12 programmable F-keys that you’d set up in the G HUB Gaming Software. Because this is a Tenkeyless board, meaning that there’s no numpad, it’s very easy to move the mouse around rapidly on a mat. The distance between keys is well spaced for both gaming and normal computer usage and I absolutely love how multifunctional this keyboard is. While Logitech does claim in their marketing material that this keyboard is portable (probably for LAN parties if that’s still a thing), I’d argue that this isn’t necessarily something you want to lug around campus or on a business trip with. The weight makes it feel durable and well constructed, but I’d argue its multifunctional use shines best when placed on a desk setting that doesn’t move too frequently. What I’m trying to say is that there are more portable gaming keyboards for gamers who like to pack their board with them. The Womier K66 that Seri reviewed a few months ago is a good example.

While the overall design of the keyboard is fantastic, my only functionality complaint is with the location of the caps lock and scroll lock settings. Like most keyboards, there’s a light indicator to let users know if either of those settings are currently toggled on. Depending on the angle that you’re sitting from, the font specifically saying “caps lock” can appear to be hidden behind the F10 button. This has confused me a handful of times, as even though I may glance down when I mistype and notice the light is on, I’m not quite able to recognize or remember that that’s the caps lock light that’s on. It looks like Logitech placed the indicator light right in the middle of the layout, but I would have appreciated the text to be just slightly higher for situations like that. Other than this nitpicky feedback, the G PRO has functioned exactly how a keyboard should.

should you buy it?

With an original retail price of $129.99, you can sometimes find the G PRO keyboard on sale for $59.99 on both the Logitech store and Amazon which is what we purchased it for. The sale price makes this keyboard a no-brainer. In fact, this board has recently obtained a second life through Slickdeals thanks to this now terrific value offered. This keyboard is responsive, well made, and aesthetically pleasing. That’s even more so for League of Legends fans. Whether or not you’re a League of Legends fan, the branding is stylish yet subtle and the blue tone gives it a unique look from the typical black gaming keyboard look we’re all familiar with. That’s a nice color option to add to the G PRO lineup. While keys and the typing feedback are very subjective for enjoyability, I’ve felt that the Logitech G PRO keyboard has a very satisfying typing experience and has been responsive in virtually every way so far. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with the Logitech G PRO mechanical keyboard especially at the sale price it’s constantly at right now.
