Disclaimer: Fiverr provided us with $250 of credit, free of charge, to use on their website to produce this video. None of the freelancers commissioned were notified that their services would be featured.

We’ve been thinking that it’s time to change up our Youtube intro to add some new flare to our brand for a few months now. As if they were able to read our minds, Fiverr reached out and offered to sponsor a video by providing us with $250 of credit to use on their website for whatever service we would like. If you don’t know what Fiverr is, think of the website as a giant online catalog of freelance work. You can find almost anything, from hiring an artist to draw your comic book, to legal consultation. Fiverr is an easy way for anyone to get something done for their personal use or their business. Curious as to what quality we could find in various price points, we took on the task of divvying up the $250 of credit and dispersed it between three freelancers.

Freelancers on this platform can have various plans at different price tags to make their services more affordable for everybody. So what quality of work can we get for spending $20, $50, and $100? Let’s take a look at the results.

What Can We Get For $20?

The freelancer Zabstract caught our attention with his clean use of motion with his lines, and the simplistic yet efficient use of resources. For $20 in his basic package, we’ll receive a 1080p intro that is 2 to 6 seconds long, with music and sound effects, all within a 2 day turnaround. He also provides buyers with unlimited revisions. That seems like a ridiculously underpriced freelance offering based on his portfolio.

Two days from when I first submitted my order, Zabstract delivered the first cut of our intro video.

Zabstract Cut 1

After Lida and I reviewed it, we sent the following revision request

Hey there, great work! A few requests:
- Please add slight animation to background image so that it's less static
- Please swap the animation from a sun or eyeball that appears at around the 1 second mark to maybe look like the loading icon from the Mac icon or something more tech related?
Thank you!

One day later, we received the second cut of the video and it was remarkably more refined. I would say that Zabstract took our notes and went way above the minimum work to change the perception of how the video presented. We didn’t have much of anything to dislike after seeing this cut. For $20, this was realistically the best quality intro we could get at this extremely low price tag and we were very happy with it.

What can we get for $50?

When it came to the $50 range, we went slightly over with Harris’ Premium offering at $55. This creator has a wide range of designs on his portfolio and that versatility was attractive to us. With 215 reviews and a 4.9 star rating, we would get the full array of checks with 9 revisions and a 3 day delivery window.

Harris Cut 1

Right on the money, Harris’ first delivery arrived exactly three days from when we submitted our order. We were immediately impressed with certain aspects of his work. It seemed like he really understood the concept of our expanding block logo. We sent him the following notes for our first revision.

Hey Harris,
Awesome job on the first cut. Just a couple of notes:
-Can you tone down the transition flash a bit. The switch from white to black with the flash is a bit jarring. I'm worried about people watching with seizure issues. It does feel like a two part intro with the push in and the lightning as a transition to the name. I understand why it was done this way, but if you can somehow make the logo transition to the name a little smoother it would be perfect.
-The animation of the logo is great. Love how detail oriented the motion is with the lines of the shapes.
-I'm worried the black textured background is too dark and might look like a flat black background on mobile devices. Can you lighten the hue so we can see the texture more?
-Let's also end on a white version of the background with the black text to help brighten the intro leading into our videos.
-Can you also animate the name out of the screen without wiping the entire frame to black? Just slide or fade the name out and leave the textured background to end. I would normally fade to black or use a wipe transition from my logo file into the rest of my youtube video so I'd prefer a solid shot.
Thanks for the hard work.

That same day, four hours later, we received the second cut. It was pretty close to what we asked him to fix. Almost down to the tee. In this case, the bones of what we wanted were already constructed with a really refined first cut, so there really wasn’t much more that he could do for us with this concept. Overall, it was an exceedingly quick turnaround and the results were quite solid for $50.

What can we get for $100+?

For our most expensive option, we decided to mix it up a little. A seller named Rafi had one of the best portfolios we had come across. Many of his designs were targeted at the gaming and Twitch audiences. There’s definitely a tech-crossover vibe to his work and we felt we could benefit from his vision. At $95, we’re right there at the $100 price range we were looking at for this video. We’d get a custom (advanced 2D animation) intro that has sound effects and background music with it. We’d have 3 revisions, but it would have the longest delivery time between our three options, with a 10 day lead. With this commission, we will have completed our video task of answering what we could get for $20, $50, and $100. With a little bit of leftover money from our $250 Fiverr credit, we also commissioned Rafi to do a custom outro for an additional $85. We added $7 of our own funds after service fees and taxes to cover the remaining costs.

It took Rafi a full week before delivery of his first cut. It would actually be the final locked cut. The level of refinement and detail wowed us. I know, we’re pretty easy customers. But on a serious note, taking his artistic vision into consideration, there really weren't any meaningful additions or subtractions Lida and I would have wanted. Unlike the other two freelancers, Rafi does not want you to offer a detailed concept for him to create. He wants full creative control based on the survey you provided him with when you submitted your order. I don’t know how much time he spent researching our channel or website, but he got our vibe down pat. It was almost like his intro and outro were made with the new aesthetic redesign of our website in mind. We accepted the delivery and felt satisfied with the total $182 spent on these two videos.

Rafi Intro and Outro Final Cut

At the end of this project, we can genuinely say that we’re quite satisfied with all three of our creators and the work they provided us. We didn’t feel disappointed or that we overpaid for a single design. This process left us in a positive frame of mind. Even when one of the cuts needed work done, the revisions blew us away. Which of the three did you think was the best value?

Fiverr offers services with varying degrees of price points and experience levels. As a consumer, it really is about curating and finding the right freelancer to work on your project. But by having a central hub for freelancers to assemble at, everyone is protected by a third-party. You can spend your money or offer your services knowing that Fiverr will mitigate any issues that arise. This definitely won’t be the last time we explore Fiverr and we’re looking forward to seeing how the platform continues to evolve to make work easier and more efficient.
