The Steam Deck is a great portable option for PC gaming. It expands the limits of your PC gaming library by allowing you to take it anywhere in the world and play games off it natively. This Nintendo Switch-like mentality is an absolute game changer. However, the Deck does not ship with a means to dock onto a television like Nintendo’s system. Many third-party solutions are available and one of them that I’ve been using for months now is the JSAUX Docking Station.

Plugging Things In

The JSAUX Docking Station is a great way to expand the capabilities of your Steam Deck as it offers a variety of ports, including an HDMI output port, 1000 Mbps Gigabit Ethernet, and three USB-A slots, so you can connect your Steam Deck to a monitor, network, and other peripherals. The dock also supports 100W power delivery through a USB-C port, so you can keep your Steam Deck charged while you're projecting to a big screen television or monitor. As with other USB-C products, not every USB-C cable is equal. The USB-C cable for power delivery also requires a charging brick over 65W to be able to keep the Steam Deck alive while docked. Fundamentally, once everything is set up and ready to go, the added benefits of the JSAUX are exactly what you would want from a dock for any portable gaming machine.

Pushing 4K resolution at 60 Hz to a big screen, the JSAUX dock connects to the Steam Deck via an attached single USB-C L-connector. I love how it mounts flat on the top of the frame. While the dock doesn’t have much height behind the design, the Steam Deck sits comfortably into the groove designated to house it. Connecting at the top of the device via an extended cable out of the body of the dock makes this extremely flexible to use for not only the Deck, but potentially other gaming products like the Asus ROG Ally. As long as the console can fit into the slot and can push data through USB-C, this dock can potentially be used with it.

Build Quality

In terms of build quality, the JSAUX Docking Station is quite sturdy. It's made of aluminum and has a rubberized pad to protect your Steam Deck from scratches when inserted in. The negative to the slot is the sizing of the slot. I do have a case on my Steam Deck and fortunately it settles in perfectly. My case isn’t too thick, but there isn’t much wiggle room for larger cases to slot in.

The dock is also relatively compact, so it's easy to take with you on the go. All the ports excluding the ethernet are located in the rear. If you are docking this on an entertainment system, this allows all the cables to flow behind the and underneath away from sight. I’ve mounted mechanical keyboards, mice, controllers, and external memory storage into the USB ports and they’ve all recognized and worked properly.

Final Verdict

I've been using the JSAUX Docking Station for a long time now, and I've been very impressed with the value it provides for under $50. It's worked flawlessly with my Steam Deck, and I've been relying on it for my bedroom use at night time. Being able to take my Deck anywhere in the house and to dock it at night and continue off where I was in a game on my bedroom television is such a terrific luxury to enjoy. Overall, I highly recommend the JSAUX Docking Station for anyone who wants to expand the capabilities of their Steam Deck. It's a well-made, affordable dock that offers a variety of features.
